History
Our church began as a dream in 1956 when a Pastor, a missionary, and a small group of neighbors assembled to discuss the possibility of a new church in East Clearwater.
They began holding worship services in a small white frame house located on the present property, and those attending were asked to bring their own chairs. The congregation began to grow rapidly, and additional lots were purchased to build the Sanctuary and Education Building.
Early one morning in October, 1973, disaster struck as fire ravaged the fellowship hall and classrooms. Fortunately, no one was injured and plans were made immediately for reconstruction. The new building was consecrated in June, 1975.
In 1989 the Skycrest Child Development Center was established. It is one of the top-ranked preschools in Pinellas County, offering preschool, Voluntary Pre-kindergarten, and an after-school care program.
In 2010, Skycrest embarked on a visioning process to discern God’s plans for our church into the future. We believe that we exist as a church in order to connect people to God, each other, and the world. That focus has propelled us into a new season of both spiritual and numerical growth as a church, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve the community.
